Concordia offers two online pathways for candidates to prepare for educational administration certification: a Master of Science in educational leadership and a Post-master’s K-12 school administrator certificate. Graduates can be recommended to the State of Michigan school administrator certificate, and coursework for both programs aligns with the Michigan Standards for K-12 building principles.
Our programs teach traditional and contemporary theories and research and practices about human behavior in formal organizations and within schools. You will explore various school leadership roles as they contribute to the success of the instructional program, particularly through ongoing evaluation and improvement of personnel, facilities, programs, schedules, services, and staff development.
Our online school administrator certification will help you to identify the skills needed to create and sustain a positive learning environment and examine the changing, multi-faceted role of servant leadership within school administration. Throughout the SACP you will also research strategies and innovative programs to improve school operations and enhance student achievement. You will learn about the role of local, state, and federal stakeholders on the development of school policies while examining state aid formulas, tax structures, federal aid, and the use of tuition, grants, and outside funding.

Our post master’s in k-12 school administration equips educators and current administrators for school leadership in Michigan by developing skills in decision making, human resource management, teacher evaluation, and public relations.
Our 23-credit program is offered exclusively online through convenient eight-week courses, and it’s designed with current educators in mind. There is a six-month internship required, and it is one of the most important learning experiences you’ll have as you become a proficient educational leader. Our internship is designed to provide practical experiences related to Michigan's Standards for the Preparation of School Principals. The course is to be completed in a school under the supervision of both a current building administrator and the CUAA Internship Coordinator. Practicum hours are completed before, during, and after the school day and reflect all aspects of the principal's role in education.
Once coursework and internship are complete, students can be recommended by Concordia University as candidates for the Michigan School Administrator Certificate.
Concordia offers various scholarships for qualifying adult and post-traditional learners, including partnerships with various schools and districts in Michigan. Please note a student may only apply for one Uncommon Scholarship, and it cannot be combined with other Concordia tuition discounts or scholarship programs. Format and Admission Dates
This program is offered online and seated at the Ann Arbor campus. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. Canidates can apply any time throughout the year. A personal program schedule is created for each canidate.
This program is designed for working professionals.
Courses are accelerated and operate on 8-week terms.
Graduate Application Steps
The very first thing to apply is fill out a “FutureCardinal Account” by submitting a one page form which is free and takes under 5 minutes:
- Visit the NON-DEGREE application form and fill out your contact information.
- Under academic ambitions, select, I intend to enroll as a Continuing Education (Graduate Education Only)
- Under anticipated entry term, select: Appropriate term
- Under Please select a license or course(s), select: Post Master’s K-12 School Administrator Certificate Program
- Under location/delivery format, select: Ann Arbor for the seated Saturday courses, or Online
- Fill out the rest of the “futurecardinal” page and hit CONTINUE. From there, you will have the first step of your application done. You can then log in and out of your account to finish the rest.
Your admissions counselor will be in contact with you from there on out to assist with getting the next steps completed.

Q: How long does the program take?
A: The program takes 12-18 months to complete depending on the number of courses that you take per semester. This would include a 6-month internship.
Q: I am already a building administrator. Do I have to complete the internship?
A: The 6-month internship is a requirement of the Michigan Department of Education. All students must complete the internship as a requirement of the program.
Q: Can I complete the internship in the building where I am currently working?
A: Yes, it is recommended that you complete the internship where you are currently employed.
Q: Can I take this program if I do not have a master’s degree?
A: No, you must have a master’s degree in order to be enrolled in the School Administrator Certificate Program.
Q: How much does the program cost?
A: The tuition is $690 per credit hour.
Q: Are there scholarships available?
A: Yes! Concordia offers a scholarship for any student working in one of our partner schools through our Academic Community Scholarship. There are also scholarships for alumni, veterans, and those who work in Christian schools.
Q: Do you accept transfer credits?
A: Yes! Master level credits from other education programs can be accepted towards credit in this program if the courses were taken in the past seven years.
Q: What is the format for courses?
A: The courses are online and are completely asynchronous, which means that you will not have to log in at a specific time. Assignments begin on Monday of each week, and are due on the following Sunday. Some assignments may be due on Thursday, with a follow up due on Sunday.
Q: How long are the courses?
A: The courses are eight weeks long.
Q: What makes this program different than other administrator programs?
A: This program is perfect for the working professional. The courses are online, and within each week, you can work at your own pace. You can begin the program at the beginning of any term. You will learn from top practitioners in the field. You will be able to apply what you’re learning in your day-to-day work. The curriculum includes projects, every day experiences, and collaborative activities. You will have these experiences in your courses, as well as in your internship program.
